Ericaโ€™s Notes

A few years ago, if you offered me gin I wouldโ€™ve politely declined. I was never a fan of gin, had I actually tried it? no, nothing as rational as that, but I thought gin was for likeโ€ฆ old people at country clubs.

Well, I guess Iโ€™m old now, because Iโ€™ve become a gin girlie. ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ And my favorite gin cocktail? A French 75 hands down. And you better believe that fall/winter rolls around and I making all things pomegranate.

So naturallyโ€ฆ Pomegranate French 75 was born.

Hereโ€™s Why I Love This Cocktail:

  • It is a perfect balance of flavorsโ€”crisp gin, sweet-tart pomegranate, and effervescent prosecco. Itโ€™s easy to make, yet feels fancy. Itโ€™s a fun twist on the classic cocktail with lots of rich pomegranate flavor.
  • You can make it by the glass for intimate gatherings or prepare a pitcher for larger holiday partiesโ€”it scales beautifully.
  • It is a beautiful deep pink color with a little sparkle from edible glitter making it THE perfect sparkling cocktail for the holiday season- Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Yearโ€™s Eve, Valentineโ€™s Day!
  • For a more casual happy hour, and if you donโ€™t feel like opening an entire bottle of champagne, I love to make this with sparkling water.

Itโ€™s the time of year for glitter, gin and pomegranates! Letโ€™s make it!

What Youโ€™ll Need to Make Pomegranate French 75

Gin: use a gin with floral or citrus notes to complement the pomegranate and lemon. Ka-La came home with the huge Costco thing of gin so thatโ€™s what I used.

Pomegranate syrup: homemade pomegranate syrup requires only two ingredients and is simple to simmer together. Rosemary and lemon are optional in the syrup but very good.

Lemon juice: fresh lemon juice adds the perfect pop of citrus.

Prosecco: you can use champagne, prosecco or any sparkling wine.

Edible glitter: I wanted to add a little extra holiday flair and this edible glitter was PERFECT.

Optional garnishes: pomegranate arils, fresh rosemary and a lemon twist.

How to Make Pomegranate French 75

First, prepare the pomegranate simple syrup. To prepare an individual Pomegranate French 75, fill a cocktail shaker with ice and combine 1 1/2 ounces of gin, ยพ ounce of pomegranate syrup, ยพ ounce of lemon juice, and, if desired, a pinch of edible glitter.

Shake the mixture vigorously until well blended, then strain it into a champagne flute. Top the drink with 2 to 3 ounces of prosecco or sparkling wine and garnish with pomegranate arils, sprig of rosemary, or a twist of lemon.

For a pitcher, whisk together 2 cups of gin, ยพ cup of pomegranate syrup, ยพ cup of lemon juice, and edible glitter if desired, in a large pitcher. When youโ€™re ready to serve, pour the mixture into champagne flutes and finish with a splash of prosecco. To make sure itโ€™s chilled, you can shake portions of the pomegranate-gin mixture with ice in a cocktail shaker before pouring into glasses.

Expert Tips

  • Chill everything: for the best flavor and fizz, ensure your gin, prosecco, and glasses are chilled. I like to store gin in the freezer.
  • Adjust per your preference: adjust the sweetness by using more or less pomegranate syrup. Adjust tartness/acidity with a splash more or less lemon juice.
  • A more casual version: I donโ€™t generally have champagne lying around and am not going to drink a whole bottle once I open it, so if Iโ€™m just making this for me and my husband Iโ€™ll replace the prosecco with sparkling water and itโ€™s very good!

Variation Ideas

  • Cranberry French 75: Replace pomegranate syrup with cranberry syrup for another fun, festive cocktail.
  • Rosemary-Infused Syrup: I add a sprig of rosemary while the pomegranate syrup simmers which adds just a subtle note of herb flavor. I love fruit + herb flavor profiles when it comes to cocktails.
  • Vodka French 75: Swap gin for vodka if you prefer! Vodka is a little more subtle than gin and equally as good in this drink.
  • Make Pomegranate Ice Cubes: Place a few pomegranate arils (pomegranate seeds) and a small sprig of rosemary in each cube of an ice cube tray and freeze until solid. Garnish the drinks with the holiday ice!
  • Berry Sparkle: Add a few fresh raspberries or blackberries to the flute for a fruity garnish.

FAQs

Can I use champagne instead of prosecco?

Absolutely! Champagne will bring a drier, more refined flavor compared to prosecco.

Where can I find edible glitter?

I ordered this one on Amazon and it came the next day. You can also find it at retail baking stores.

Can I make pomegranate syrup ahead of time?

Yes, pomegranate syrup lasts 4 weeks in the fridge. Store it in a clean, airtight container or glass bottle.

Do I have to make the pomegranate simple syrup?

You donโ€™t HAVE to, but I strongly recommend it. It will have the best flavor when made from pure pomegranate juice and sugar but could can use a storebought pomegranate syrup as a shortcut.

I am manifesting a lovely festive time for you and this cocktail! Cheers! ๐Ÿฅ‚
