Bright, light and refreshing, this rosé wine spritzer is the perfect drink for a dinner on the patio, a dinner party or day at the lake. It is subtly sweet, refreshingly fizzy and a great way to enjoy wine!

Erica’s thoughts:

I’m not much of a wine gal. Unless it’s mixed with other delicious things. For example, I LOVE sangria. And I also love this rose wine spritzer. I’m a big fan of rosé and it is made even better by adding a splash of blood orange soda and sparkly club soda. It makes the rosé a tiny bit sweeter (but not too much!) and quite a lot fizzier (which I love). It is one of my favorite cocktails and you can easily make one or scale it up to serve to a crowd.

This is the perfect cocktail to double as a casual weeknight dinner drink and a crowd-pleaser for a dinner party. This year I took the ingredients camping and it was a refreshing drink to enjoy on a hot summer day by the river. I like that it has less alcohol than most cocktail recipes, has a light flavor and feels almost…hydrating? I know I know, it’s blasphemy to call a cocktail hydrating but I said what I said. 😆 This simple rosé spritzer is wildly versatile and basically a formula to add whatever fresh fruit, wine and sparkling water you love!

What you’ll need to make this rosé spritzer cocktail:

picture of the ingredients needed for the recipe: rosé wine, blood orange soda, club soda, orange, lime, strawberries

Rosé wine: You’ll of course want to grab a good bottle of wine that you enjoy, but it doesn’t have to be the most expensive rosé out there. I recommend a slightly sweeter rosé with more fruity flavor over a super dry rosé. I love the Côtes de Provence Rosé wine from Costco or La Ferme Julien from Trader Joe’s. Both are very affordable and make a great wine cocktail.

Blood orange Italian soda: While you’re at Trader Joe’s snagging the wine, don’t forget to grab the Villa Italia blood orange Italian soda. If you don’t have access to a Trader Joe’s you can find a similarly flavored soda at regular grocery stores. You could use raspberry soda or even a citrus soda like Sprite.

Club soda: also called seltzer water or sparkling mineral water. My favorite is Topo Chico because it is soooo bubbly and refreshing. I prefer a plain sparkling water but you could also use flavored varieties.

Fresh fruit: sliced oranges, lemon slices, lime slices and fresh strawberries make for a beautiful rosé cocktail!

How to make:

Slice the fruit. Fill one or more wine glasses with crushed ice and the sliced fruit. Add the wine, Italian soda and club soda. Add a little bit of lemon juice or lime juice for extra zip if desired! Cheers!

If you want to batch cocktails, make this recipe by the pitcher. (measurements in the recipe card below) Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher and serve immediately over ice.

Expert tips and variation ideas- I have thoughts!

  • Switch up the sweetener: Instead of the blood orange Italian soda you could use 1oz simple syrup or a flavored liqueur like orange liqueur or elderflower liqueur. Since these sweeteners are more concentrated use less and bump up the club soda quantity!
  • Switch up the wine: use your favorite sauvignon blanc to make a white wine spritzer, champagne to make a champagne cocktail or Pinot Noir for a red wine spritzer!
  • Make it stronger: listen you didn’t hear this from me, but a shot of vodka or gin is an excellent addition  to make an easy cocktail. OR you could use hard seltzer instead of soda water.
  • Use raspberries instead of strawberries to make a raspberry rosé spritzer.
  • Add fresh herbs! If you have it, add a sprig of mint or a few basil leaves.
  • Make fun citrus or berry ice cubes for an even fancier, glam look!

FAQs

Can I use a flavored seltzer instead of plain?

Yep! It’ll change the flavor profile just a little but will still be yummy. I’d go for a citrus or berry-flavored seltzer.

What type of rosé wine do you recommend?

I love the Côtes de Provence Rosé wine from Costco or La Ferme Julien from Trader Joe’s.

What if I can’t find blood orange soda?

Use a similarly flavored soda, raspberry or strawberry soda or even simple syrup. Reduce the quantity of simple syrup to 1oz and add extra sparkling water if you go that route.

Where did you get those wine glasses?

These are the ones! I love them!
