If youโ€™re looking for a quick and family-friendly dinner idea, naan pizzas are about to be your new weeknight lifesaver. You get all the fun of homemade pizza without the stress of dough (because letโ€™s be honest, nobody has time for rising and rolling on a Tuesday night). Soft and pillowy naan makes the perfect base, it gets golden and crisp around the edges while still staying chewy in the middle and then you can customize with your favorite toppings! In this post, Iโ€™ll share four of my familyโ€™s favorite combos and share seven other variations โ€“ thereโ€™s something for everyone.

Ericaโ€™s Thoughts

I love homemade pizza night, but sometimes the dough situation is just not happening. Especially on busy weeknights. Enter: naan pizzas. They are fast, versatile, and a total family favorite. My girls like classic pepperoni and I get a little fancier for my husband and I. Itโ€™s one of those meals where the whole family gets what they like, nobody complains, and dinner is on the table in 20 minutes flat.

This is another episode in Embarrassingly Easy Dinners ft Trader Joeโ€™s shortcuts! Trader Joeโ€™s has a great, affordable variety of amazing pizza toppings. And their garlic naan is perfect โ€“ itโ€™s soft and pillowy and yummy. You can of course get any of these ingredients at regular grocery stores, but if you have a TJs handy, make a run for pizza toppings and naan. This is such a great way to get kiddos involved in making dinner. My girls love making their own pizzas with their favorite pizza toppings.

The four combos below are our go-to favorites, but naan pizzas are basically a blank canvas fo whatever you like. An entire mini pizza to myself, donโ€™t mind if I do.

What Youโ€™ll Need for Naan Pizzas

Naan bread: I love love this shortcut. Pictured here are the garlic naan from Trader Joeโ€™s but Iโ€™ve also used the Stonefire naan from the grocery store. Itโ€™s located in the bakery section, not the bread aisle.

Pizza sauce: classic red sauce, pesto, olive oil.

Cheese: I go for fresh mozzarella cheese and an Italian cheese blend โ€“ like the Quattro Formaggi blend from Trader Joeโ€™s. Remember, there is a difference between fresh mozzarella, which is quite soft and tearable, and low-moisture mozzarella, which you can grate. You can use either, but the one pictured here is fresh!

Meat toppings: Pepperoni and prosciutto for these combos, but other ideas include shredded chicken, Italian sausage, salami, bacon, ground beef, or thinly sliced steak.

Fruit and Vegetable Toppings: peaches, fresh tomatoes, marinated artichokes, pepperoncinis, olives, shallots.

Garnishes: arugula, fresh herbs like basil, balsamic glaze, extra-virgin olive oil, parmesan cheese, and flaky sea salt. These make it feel a little fancy after baking.

How to Make Naan Pizzas

Preheat the oven to 450ยฐF and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Depending on how many pizzas youโ€™re making, you may need to use two pans or bake in batches.

Classic Pepperoni: Spread ยผ cup pizza sauce on naan. Add 2 oz torn mozzarella and about 8-10 slices of pepperoni. Bake, then top with Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes, if desired.

Pesto Peach Prosciutto: Spread 2 tablespoons pesto on naan. Add 6 thin peach slices, 2 oz mozzarella, and 2-3 pieces of torn prosciutto. Sprinkle on some fresh thyme. After baking, top with arugula, balsamic glaze, olive oil, and flaky sea salt.

Mediterranean: Rub naan flatbread with 2-3 teaspoons olive oil and the cut side of a garlic clove. Olive oil and garlic make a flavorful pizza sauce. Top with 2 oz Italian cheese blend, sliced pepperoncinis, quartered artichokes, kalamata olives, and thinly sliced shallot.

Caprese: Spread ยผ cup pizza sauce on naan. Add 2 oz torn mozzarella and 1-2 thinly sliced tomatoes (blotted with a paper towel and seasoned with salt and pepper). After baking, finish with fresh basil and balsamic glaze.

Bake: Arrange pizzas on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and the cheese melts. Slice and enjoy!

Variation Ideas

  • BBQ Chicken: BBQ sauce, shredded chicken, mozzarella, red onion, cilantro.
  • Breakfast Pizza: ground sausage, red onion, red peppers and crack an egg on top halfway through baking.
  • Veggie Lovers: roasted zucchini, green peppers, mushrooms, goat cheese and a drizzle of hot honey.
  • Caramelized Onion: bacon, deeply caramelized onions and fig jam.
  • Buffalo Chicken: buffalo sauce, shredded chicken, blue cheese, green onions, ranch drizzle.
  • Roasted Garlic: creamy white sauce, roasted garlic, thinly sliced steak
  • English Muffin Pizza or Pita Pizza: instead of store-bought naan, use English muffins or pita bread.

FAQs

Can I use frozen naan?

Yes, just thaw at room temp before assembling.

Do naan pizzas reheat well?

Yes! Reheat in the oven or air fryer at 350ยฐF until warm and crisp.

Can I grill naan pizzas?

Totally. Preheat your grill, cook the naan plain for 1-2 minutes per side, then add toppings and finish with the lid closed.

What sides go with naan pizza?

I serve these with a simple green salad or sliced veggies and fresh fruit.

Can I make these with regular pizza dough?

Yup. Roll out your pizza dough, top as desired and bake at 450ยฐF for 12-15 minutes. You may want to add a sprinkle of semolina flour or cornmeal under the dough so it doesnโ€™t stick and use a pizza stone for optimal crispiness.

Fresh ingredients + a big shortcut = a fun meal your fam will love, heck yeaaahhhh.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Classic pepperoni (per pizza):

  • 1/4 cup classic pizza sauce
  • 2 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, torn
  • 10 pieces uncured sliced pepperoni
  • finishing touches: parmesan cheese and/or red pepper flakes

Pesto Peach Proscuitto (per pizza):

  • 2 tablespoons pesto
  • 6 thin slices of fresh peach
  • 2โ€“3 pieces prosciutto, torn
  • 2 oz fresh mozzarella, torn
  • fresh thyme
  • finishing touches: arugula, balsamic glaze, olive oil, flaky sea salt

Mediterranean (per pizza):

  • 2โ€“3 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, sliced in half
  • 2 oz Italian cheese blend (like the Quattro Formaggi blend from TJs)
  • 2 tablespoons sliced pepperoncinis
  • 2โ€“3 quartered marinated artichoke hearts
  • 6 kalamata olives, sliced in half
  • 1/4 shallot, thinly sliced
  • crumbled feta
  • Italian seasoning

Caprese (per pizza):

  • 1/4 cup classic pizza sauce
  • 2 oz fresh mozzarella, torn
  • 1โ€“2 small tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • finishing touches: fresh basil leaves, balsamic glaze, flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Prep: Preheat the oven to 450ยฐF and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Depending on how many naan pizzas youโ€™re making and how big your sheet pan is, you may need to work in batches or use two pans.
  2. Classic pepperoni: spread ยผ cup red sauce over the naan, layer on about 8-10 pepperoni and then spread 2oz torn mozzarella on top.
  3. Pesto Peach Prosciutto: spread 2 tablespoons pesto over the naan. Add 6 thin peach slices, 2oz mozzarella and 2-3 pieces of torn proscuitto. I like to tear and kinda โ€˜crumpleโ€™ the prosciutto into little rustic little spirals so theyโ€™re not laying flat. Sprinkle thyme leaves all over. After the pizza is baked, add fresh arugula, drizzles of olive oil and balsamic glaze and a pinch of flaky sea salt.
  4. Mediterranean: drizzle a couple teaspoons of olive oil and use the cut side of a garlic clove to rub it all over the naan. Use a paper towel to pat away most of the moisture from the sliced pepperoncinis and marinated artichoke hearts, give them a rough chop if desired. Place 2oz Italian cheese blend, pepperoncinis, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, thinly sliced shallot, feta and Italian seasoning on the pizza.
  5. Caprese: thinly slice tomatoes and use a paper towel to blot away some of the moisture. Season the tomato slices with salt and pepper. Spread ยผ cup pizza sauce on the naan followed by 2oz fresh mozzarella and tomato slices. After baking, add fresh basil leaves and balsamic glaze.
  6. Bake: arrange the naan pizzas on the prepared baking tray(s) and bake for 10 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Slice and enjoy!
